At Pure Origin, we’re all about giving back, and empowering women is one of our top priorities. That’s why we donate a portion of every sale of our Colombian roast to the Las Rosas Project – a group that helps support female farmers. Are you a passionate advocate for gender equality? The Las Rosas Project

In Colombia, men dominate the coffee trade. The Las Rosas project in Huila, Colombia, has made it their mission to change this fact. By funding training, seminars, and other useful resources, the project has helped over 550 women become financially independent on their small, family-owned farms. The women (many victims of gender-based violence and inequality) are given all the resources they need to thrive and take control of their lives.

That’s why Pure Origin works with Las Rosas – we get the delicious coffee beans and the female farmers get much needed education. This helps them reduce their social vulnerability, gives them access to credit, and reduces instances of domestic violence.

On the other hand, Las Rosas also has a deep commitment to the environment. That’s why the group trains women in sustainable farming techniques, so the Earth can continue providing for years to come. Additionally, the group plants coffee trees – over 2,500 to date! The future of the Colombian coffee trade is brighter and more sustainable as a result.

The importance of women empowerment

Gender equality is a struggle throughout the world, and perhaps even more so in rural Colombia.
