Did you know that there are over 15,000 coffee farmers in the Democratic Republic of Congo? These farmers have one thing in common – like many people in the Congo, they’ve suffered from the conflict, poverty, and injustice that was once a daily part of life. As they attempt to rebuild their lives and move forward, the coffee trade has been a beacon of hope, and Pure Origin is proud to help support them. We know that Africa isn’t the first place people think of when they talk about coffee. We want to change that with a delicious dark roast and an important cause – peace empowerment.

Mighty Peace Coffee

In the Congo, we work alongside Mighty Peace Coffee, a social impact importer that is ethical and sustainable. Since its foundation, the group has supported over 9,000 men and women in post-conflict zones. Much of the funding goes towards providing education for the growers – both in agriculture and financial literacy. It helps pays their debts, improve their living conditions, and gives them the tools they need to continue farming. Furthermore, Mighty Peace sets aside money for apprenticeship trades, conservation of protected forest areas, and keeping the peace in the formerly war-torn country. Additionally, we’re excited to report that over 1,500 people in the Congo will receive clean water and energy this year. With your help, we hope to boost that number in the near future.

Most of the coffee that they produce is certified organic and fair trade – and that makes a huge difference for the farmers. In the Umoja region, 11,600 farmers work daily to bring us the delicious Congolese coffee beans. In the Twende region, 2,093 do the same. Thanks to their tireless efforts and support from Mighty Peace, we’re able to enjoy an incredible dark roast that rivals anything coming out of South America or the Caribbean.

In Colombia, men dominate the coffee trade. The Las Rosas project in Huila, Colombia, has made it their mission to change this fact. The women (many victims of gender-based violence and inequality) are given all the resources they need to thrive and take control of their lives.

That’s why Pure Origin works with Las Rosas – we get the delicious coffee beans and the female farmers get much needed education. This helps them reduce their social vulnerability, gives them access to credit, and reduces instances of domestic violence.

On the other hand, Las Rosas also has a deep commitment to the environment. That’s why the group trains women in sustainable farming techniques, so the Earth can continue providing for years to come. Additionally, the group plants coffee trees – over 2,500 to date! The future of the Colombian coffee trade is brighter and more sustainable as a result.

Since its foundation, Grounds for Health has treated over 12,000 women and screened over 140,000, according to the organization’s website. By partnering with Grounds for Health, we help provide health facilities with cryotherapy and treatment devices, as well as necessary supplies. Together, we also spread word about screening and treatment possibilities, saving lives that would have otherwise been lost.

Many women that receive treatment from Grounds for Health work in the coffee industry. In the far-out coffee-producing regions of Kenya, it’s difficult to get access to screening, let alone treatment. Todos Al Agua operates out of the Amazonas region of Peru, which has struggled with poor water quality for decades. That’s why we’ve teamed up with Todos Al Agua – to “turn the tide” and protect the vital water resources throughout the region.

We source our Peruvian beans from the farmers in the Amazonas, supporting them financially as they create a name for themselves in the competitive coffee industry. Additionally, a portion of every purchase goes towards funding workshops to share the results of conditions and combat climate change. With these much-needed funds, the growers can improve their knowledge of the industry and of eco-friendly cultivation techniques that help them create a more sustainable future.

Over the course of the last few years, these growers have taken great strides towards independence. Their wages have never been more fair, and the quality of the soil is on the rise. Our revolutionary new packaging allows us to share video testimonials from our partners. They can tell you about their lives and working conditions so you can better understand the difference you make with every purchase of Pure Origin coffee!

We’re here to help you understand this new technology and truly engage with coffee farmers from across the world. It’s as simple as opening your smartphone camera and pointing at a code! However, if you’re confused, feel free to read our guide below to learn how to best experience AR.

Augmented Reality on Phones

While you may need a headset to experience VR, you can view the majority of AR material from your phone. Developers work hard to make their content available through the average smartphone camera, either through the use of an app or a browser. Engaging with this content is often as easy as scanning a QR code with your camera. From there, a pop-up should help direct you to the appropriate webpage or app. After that, you’ll be able to follow built-in instructions in order to experience the immersive AR tech.
