Sustainable Kenyan Coffee

Pure Origin is quickly becoming a leader in the world of sustainable coffee, and it is easy to see why! From the tree to the bag, we are proud to be both environmentally and socially responsible. Every sale benefits one of our charitable causes, so you can make an impact from the comfort of your home. With this considered, we are proud to offer our sustainable Kenyan coffee, a delicious addition to your caffeine routine!

Our Kenyan coffee is a light roast with wine notes, coming from the Nyeri region of Kenya, where we partner with Grounds for Health, which tests for cervical cancer in remote regions within the coffee-producing country. This includes increasing access to screening and prevention, as well as education and training of local health care providers.

Grounds for Health

Grounds for Health was founded in 1996 by Dan Cox, who at that time served as a president of a U.S. coffee company. He founded the organization alongside Dr. Francis Fote, a specialist in obstetrics and gynecology. According to the project’s website, they have treated 10,205 women across the world and screened 124,641 to date.

Pure Origin’s Kenyan coffee helps provide preventative services to women in some of the country’s most remote regions. In these far-flung regions, women are usually unable to access healthcare, resulting in many deaths to diseases that are often treatable. Day-to-day, Grounds for Health provides health facilities with cryotherapy and treatment devices, as well as necessary supplies. The project also makes an effort to spread word about screening and treatment possibilities throughout the country in order to increase its impact. Many of the affected women are coffee growers throughout Kenya who otherwise would go without treatment entirely.

Why Pure Origin?

Additionally, like all of our coffees, Pure Origin’s Kenyan variety has a single origin sustainable impact, meaning it comes only from a select farms in the Nyeri region, and the farmers there tend to their crops in an eco-friendly, sustainable manner. As a result, we compensate them for their hard work and pay a premium price for their beans. That way, you can enjoy a cup today, knowing that it was produced in a way that is respectful of the Earth, and of our valued partners in the Kenyan farming community.

At Pure Origin, we know you have a vast range of choices when it comes to coffee. We also know that you want your purchases to have a positive impact on the world. So, if you are concerned about the carbon footprint or the social impact of your favorite light roast, but can’t get enough of the delicious taste, look no further! Try a cup of our sustainable Kenyan coffee and discover the Pure Origin difference today!

Where to support coffee farmers

At Pure Origin, we care about our farmers and growers, and we do our best to support them. Too many companies take advantage of their position of power and shortchange their farmers. We structured our entire brand around sustainability, both for the environment and for the farmers who work so hard to bring us delicious cups of coffee. If you are wondering where to support coffee farmers, read on to learn how your caffeine habit can create positive change throughout the world!

Where to support coffee farmers

Simply put, at this stage, the best place to help is the internet. Unless you have the time or money to fly to Peru, Honduras, or Indonesia, your best option is to try and help online. Supporting coffee farmers is as easy, then, as ordering coffee produced by them. However, not all coffee companies are created equal when it comes to compensation. It is important to do some research to find a coffee company that pays their farmers fairly.

Many people think that their purchase can’t make a difference, but this isn’t true at all! For small farmers, every purchase is incredibly important, as the farms often on very tight budgets. The farmer and his or her family are generally the laborers, and many farms can’t afford additional staff. Similarly, many small farms don’t have the money for eco-friendly, agricultural training. That means these farms aren’t always operating as efficiently and environmentally soundly as they could with additional training. This is particularly true for new operations as they seek to make a name for themselves in the competitive industry. Each purchase can bring increased financial security, allowing the farmer to branch out and pursue improvements to his or her farm.

Why Pure Origin?

We realize that it is difficult to research the specific conditions of each farm by yourself. Coffee farms are far away, and you can’t always trust companies to have farmers’ best interests at heart. That why Pure Origin started with one mission: to give back to farmers and the environment at the same time. We didn’t accept that we had to choose between social activism and a delicious cup of coffee. That’s why all of our farms are sustainable impacting a single origin. We make a strong commitment to training and supporting our farmers and to healing the environment. Additionally, all of our coffee comes from one farm or sets of farms, eliminating vague “blends.” With Pure Origin, we keep ourselves accountable, and what you see is what you get.

Each of our six coffees also have another way of giving back! Every cup supports a unique charitable cause in the country of origin, so you can choose not only your roast, but your cause too! In Kenya, we partner with Grounds for Health, a group which aims to reduce cervical cancer in remote regions within the coffee-producing country. In Peru, we work alongside Todos Al Agua, a group which combats contaminated water found throughout the region. We work with Coop Reje Gayo in Indonesia, a center that provides education and training on coffee cultivation techniques. They run the range from light to dark roast, and come with various notes to suit your taste. You can choose your favorite cause or your favorite flavor, but every purchase does good in the world!

We know the coffee market is confusing and flooded with many, many brands, but we believe we stand alone in social activism and outreach. Do some research on our website and discover how Pure Origin is making a difference throughout the world every day!

What is the impact of Pure Origin Coffee?

Coffee fanatics across the country are falling in love with Pure Origin, a leader in the field of sustainable impact coffee! If you haven’t yet read up on what sets us apart from other coffee brands, you may be wondering what is Pure Origin Coffee’s impact on the world? Read on as we explain how we give back to the planet and to the farmers that help bring us delicious cups of coffee!

What is our impact?

Pure Origin is proud to be a sustainable-impact coffee brand, but what does this mean? Simply put, it means we take care to give back. We are especially careful that our farmers use environmentally friendly farming practices and are compensated fairly. When farmers need classes or workshops to improve their farming techniques, we help fund these endeavors. Pure Origin does this so that your favorite cup of coffee doesn’t come at the expense of the planet or its people!

Additionally, being a sustainable impact brand means that we pay farmers a premium price for every bean. The only way that a coffee company can be truly sustainable is if it compensates farmers fairly. We are nothing without our farmers, so it only makes sense to support them. This is particularly true because many coffee-growing farmers across the world work on family farms or small lots. This makes them especially susceptible to market fluctuations, and a single bad season can ruin their livelihood. We take care of our farmers, and they take care of us. That way, we can keep enjoying delicious coffee together for years to come!

Finally, all of our coffee is single origin, meaning it comes from one farm or sets of farms. This helps us create a consistent, tasty product and keeps us accountable for our business practices across the world. When you know exactly where your coffee comes from, you can seek out desired regional characteristics and flavors. More importantly, you can do your research into the farms we use and make sure we are as ethical as we say we are. Larger companies source from vast swathes of countries, so a bag could contain a blend of dozens of farms. This makes it all but impossible to figure out where your coffee comes from and what the conditions are like there. With Pure Origin, you can trace your coffee from the bag to the tree! This peace of mind helps us stand out in the crowded coffee market.

Why Pure Origin?

Aside from our generally sustainable business practices, Pure Origin also supports several charitable causes! Every sale of our coffee gives back to the coffee’s country of origin in important ways. In the Congo, we work alongside Mighty Peace Coffee, a movement seeking to end mineral conflict throughout the region. Our Indonesian coffee supports Coop Reje Gayo, providing education and training on coffee cultivation techniques. In Kenya, we partner with Grounds for Health, a group attempting to reduce instances of cervical cancer in remote regions within the coffee-producing country.

As you can see, Pure Origin is not content just to use sustainability as a buzzword to boost sales. We modeled our entire company around the principle, so our impact is as positive as it can be. We are proud to be making strides to rejuvenate the planet and the farmers that work the land, and we look forward to making the next step! Buy a cup of Pure Origin coffee today and discover the difference we can make together!

Top 5 ways to empower the grower

If you are a discerning coffee enthusiast, you are aware of the importance of farmers and growers in the industry. Farmers are the lifeblood of the industry, and large coffee companies often don’t do enough to support them. That is why Pure Origin stands apart from the rest: we pay a premium price for every bean and help farmers with region-specific problems as they arise. We realize that our company is only as strong as the farmers that help make us who we are. With that considered, we have compiled a list of the top 5 ways to empower the grower.

Top 5 ways to empower the grower

While there are a million small ways you can help empower growers, we’ve narrowed down the most influential ones. In particular, we recommend buying only sustainable-impact coffee, helping fund workshops for farmers, doing your research into companies, ordering your coffee online, and holding companies accountable for their business practices, both at home and abroad. Read on to discover what each of these means and how you can help growers today!

Buy only sustainable-impact coffee

Sustainable-impact coffee is coffee that is created with respect for the farmer and for the environment. It applies to companies that compensate farmers fairly and make sure they engage in ecologically safe agriculture. While larger corporations pay market price for beans, sustainable-impact coffee brands go above and beyond. This is because when farmers are happy and stable, they thrive, and so do the brands that make them.

That is why it is important to purchase only coffee that has a sustainable impact. Of course, no one will blame you for a name-brand coffee here and there. However, in this day and age, your purchases speak and make a difference in the world. That is why Pure Origin recommends you make the switch to sustainable-impact coffee in the home. That way, you can be sure that farmers are fairly compensated, and that your coffee didn’t come at their expense.

Help fund workshops

In many impoverished regions of the world, coffee farmers don’t farm sustainably because they either don’t have the training or the funds to do so. They are not intentionally looking to hurt the environment, but when farmers operate on a razor-thin budget, things can fall through the cracks. Similarly, people in many remote regions may never have learned about environmental responsibility, and cannot be blamed for poor farming practices.

Because of this, it is key to help fund workshops across the world. Pure Origin is proud to support several causes that empower growers in this way. In Indonesia, our partner Coop Reje Gayo provides education and training on proper cultivation techniques. In Peru, we work with Todos Al Agua, a group that helps combat contaminated water, particularly through workshops and seminars. Our partner in Columbia, the Las Rosas Women’s Group, helps 300 women farmers attend workshops to better themselves and their crops. In all of these regions, the farms have made noticeable strides environmentally. The farmers are more empowered and can start to turn back the tide on global warming.

Do your research

The best tool you can use to empower farmers is your computer. It is much easier to do your research online and not in the coffee aisle of the supermarket. If you really want to help make a difference with your coffee purchases, take your time to make sure your chosen company is sustainable. Every reputable coffee company that gives back to farmers should have an extensive web presence. With a bit of research, you can weed out the companies that only pay lip service to boost sales and differentiate them from those that truly care about farmers.

In particular, keep an eye out for how companies source their coffee. All of Pure Origin’s coffee is single origin, meaning it comes from one region. That way, you can trace your coffee back to the individual farm where it was grown. With this information, you can research conditions, contact the farm itself, or enquire with the coffee company to make sure everything is above-board and ethical.

Additionally, make sure that the company isn’t just doing the bare minimum to boost sales. The ideal coffee company should seem eager to make a difference beyond what is strictly necessary. For example, a portion of every sale of Pure Origin coffee helps farmers across the world! In Kenya, we work with Grounds for Health, which aims to reduce incidences of cervical cancer in remote regions of the coffee-producing country. In the Congo, we work with Mighty Peace Coffee, helping to end the mineral conflict and the brutality it brings. With a bit of research, you can make a huge difference for growers across the world!

Order online

Many smaller sustainable companies may not have a huge presence on grocery store shelves. The supermarket is dominated by big brands that often compensate growers minimally. Even the sustainable brands that do make it onto the shelf can see their profits slashed by the competition. Without a middleman, the online shopper has all the power and coffee companies and growers benefit proportionally!

Once you’ve determined that a coffee company is optimally sustainable, you can empower the grower by ordering online. That way, you know that a portion of your money goes directly to the grower. For smaller companies and growers, every sale and every dollar makes a difference. Because of this, online shopping is the way to go if you want to make a difference with your coffee purchases!

Hold companies accountable

Lastly, just because a company is sustainable doesn’t mean that they don’t have room to improve! If you have comments for us or suggestions for causes you’d like us to consider supporting, reach out to Pure Origin today! For us, sustainability is a priority that we take very seriously. We seek to empower the grower with every sale, and if you are as passionate as we are, we urge you to do your research too.

We hope this guide has helped you to become a more informed consumer. Try a cup of Pure Origin coffee and help us make a difference for growers across the world today!

What is the grower impact of Pure Origin coffee?

If you’ve tried a cup of our Pure Origin coffee, you’ve probably already begun to fall in love with our incredible roasts! As you enjoy your favorite hot drink, you may wonder what the grower impact could be. Rest assured, all of our coffee is sustainable impact and single-origin, and every bean is purchased for a premium price. But what does this all mean? Read on to discover the difference we make at Pure Origin!

Grower impact

Pure Origin is a leader in the up-and-coming industry of sustainable impact coffee. Sustainable impact coffee is coffee grown, harvested, and produced with respect for the environment and the growers. This means that we make sure our growers engage in sustainable agricultural practices and give back to the land. They maintain soil and water quality and tend to their crops in an eco-friendly way. More importantly, growers are paid premium prices for every bean so that we can continue to thrive together!

Additionally, Pure Origin coffees are all single origin coffees, meaning it is sourced from a few sets of farms within specific regions. This is unlike most giant brands that source from vast groups of countries and mix beans to create blends. This allows us to maintain a high-quality, consistent product for discerning coffee lovers. However, it also keeps us accountable to our farmers and the customers who care about their wellbeing. If you know exactly where your coffee comes from, you can be more assured of the conditions under which it was grown. With Pure Origin, you know exactly where every bean came from and can trace it back from bag to tree! As a result, you can do your own research and see how well we treat our growers across the world.

Finally, we make sure to compensate growers fairly for every bean. This is because the success we have as a company is directly tied to the success we make together. Growers receive premium prices so that they can invest in growing their farms and their communities. These higher sale prices allow them to attend workshops to learn and develop as farmers. And as they improve, so does our final product, making it mutually beneficial. With Pure Origin, you can rest easy, knowing the grower impact of every bag!

Why Pure Origin?

In addition to our sustainable business practices, Pure Origin is proud to support a variety of charitable causes with every sale! Depending on which roast and flavors you prefer, you could help end the economic conflict in the Congo, support small farmers in Honduras, or fund cervical cancer testing in remote regions of Kenya (among others). Every purchase benefits these causes in the coffee’s country of origin, so choose your favorite roast or whichever cause speaks to you most!

At Pure Origin, we think you should never have to choose between social activism and the coffee you love. Your purchases have power, and we hope you choose to join Pure Origin as we try to make a difference across the world!

How to select single-origin coffee

With millions of brands and varieties of coffee out there, the single-origin coffee customer has never had more choices when it comes to their morning brew. However, this can also be a confusing prospect. Customers now have to sort through hundreds of blends and coffee regions to determine which coffee is best for them. This is near-impossible while standing in the coffee aisle of your local grocery store and only a little easier online.

How to select single origin coffee

At Pure Origin, we aim to make your choice in single-origin coffee much simpler. We offer six coffees, all differing in flavor and roast, with each benefitting a different social cause in the respective regions: Congo, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, and Colombia. Read on to discover the unique flavors and causes behind every variety of Pure Origin coffee!

Congolese single-origin coffee

Pure Origin’s Congolese coffee is an organic dark roast with citrus notes from the South Kivu region. Every sale benefits Mighty Peace, a movement which seeks to end conflict and brutality throughout the country. A portion of every sale helps fund education, provide clothing, pay debts, and improve the living conditions of its people.

Honduran single-origin coffee

On the other hand, our Honduran coffee is a medium roast with caramel notes from the Intibucá region. Sales benefit various small family farms as they attempt to make a name for themselves in the competitive coffee industry. 90 percent of Honduran coffee farms currently operate as small, family-owned lots. This means they are very vulnerable when it comes to environmental fluctuations and financial instability. Proceeds from this coffee will help farmers face various environmental threats throughout the region. At the same time, they help strengthen the position of small farmers in the coffee market.

Indonesian single-origin coffee

Our Indonesian coffee is an organic Sumatran Fair-Trade-certified dark roast with chocolate notes. In Indonesia, Pure Origin works alongside Coop Reje Gayo, a center that provides education and training on coffee-cultivation techniques. A portion of every sale helps fund this training and ensures that farmers can sell every bean for a premium. This is beneficial for the farmer, but also allows them to be sustainable growers, both environmentally and economically.

Kenyan single-origin coffee

Our Kenyan coffee is a light roast with wine notes, coming from the Nyeri region. Our partner there is Grounds for Health, which aims to reduce cervical cancer in remote regions within the coffee-producing country. Each cup sold goes towards reducing incidences of this horrible disease. This includes increasing access to screening and prevention, as well as education and training of local health care providers.

Peruvian single-origin coffee

Pure Origin’s Peruvian coffee is a light roast with nutty notes that comes from the Amazonas region. Our sales of this variety benefit Todos Al Agua, a group combatting contaminated water found throughout the region. Over the last 25 years, the region has struggled with poor water quality, resulting in sickness and water scarcity. Alongside Todos Al Agua, Pure Origin helps to fund ongoing workshops to share the results of conditions and combat climate change. This helps protect water resources that are vital for coffee growers and citizens, alike.

Colombian single-origin coffee

Finally, our Colombian coffee is a medium roast with fruity notes, and comes from the Huila region of Colombia. Pure Origin works alongside the Las Rosas Women’s Group, supporting 300 women as they grow coffee and attend workshops to better themselves and their crops. Additionally, the project helps growers access necessary loans, provides equitable wages for their labor, and gives them technical training in their craft so they can lead their farm in the traditionally male-dominated coffee-growing industry.

How to choose?

The simplest way to choose between our varieties would be to determine your favorite roast and the associated notes. If you are a fan of light roasts, the Kenyan and Peruvian coffees would be the way to go, with their respective notes of wine and nuts. Alternatively, if you are looking for a nice medium roast, try either our Honduran coffee with caramel notes or our Colombian coffee with fruity notes. Lastly, for the dark-roast enthusiast, select between either of our organic Congolese or Indonesian options, with citrus or chocolate notes, respectively.

Perhaps you love any kind of coffee, and want to focus on the social impact of your brew. If you prefer to support women’s rights, the Colombian or Kenyan coffee would be the way to go. On the other hand, small-business fans should try the tasty Honduran blend. Those who want to combat conflict in Africa should sample the Congolese variety, while those concerned with environmentalism should consider the Peruvian. The Indonesian has something for everyone, providing education and training in an impoverished region, benefitting farmers and the planet at the same time.

Why Pure Origin?

At Pure Origin, we know you have a vast array of choices when it comes to coffee, single-origin or otherwise. Try our coffee to see why we stand alone in the industry! What is single-origin coffee?

As the coffee industry continues to grow, new terms frequently pop up, confusing first-time customers and consumers. One of these is “single-origin coffee” a new, socially and ethically conscious trend in coffee production. Pure Origin is a leader in the single-origin coffee market, and we are here to help you understand this up-and-coming field!

What is single-origin coffee?

Single-origin coffee is coffee that is sourced from a single area, generally from one grower or sets of growers. This is different from larger-scale production of coffee for big brands. These larger companies typically source from a variety of locations and regions per each coffee bag. Generally, single-origin coffee comes from cooperatives made up of several small farms. These farms, often times share resources, knowledge, and funds in order to unify their product and reach a larger audience.

However, there are even smaller units of production, which can include single-farm and single-estate coffees. These are coffee products that come from a single farming location or from one individual estate, respectively. The smallest is “micro lot”, which is coffee that comes from one specific plot of land on one specific farm. Companies harvest and process these coffees on a miniature scale.

Why buy single origin?

One of the biggest reasons to buy single-origin coffee is that you can know exactly where your coffee comes from. This can be beneficial for customers who want the exact, unique characteristics of a certain region or grower. However, it also helps customers ensure that the coffee they buy is sustainably and ethically produced. For example, Pure Origin’s Honduran coffee comes from family farms in Intibucá, Honduras. As a consumer, you can research the growing and living conditions to make sure your cup of coffee was sourced from an ethical and environmentally sound farm. You can have peace of mind knowing you have bought not only a great cup of coffee, but one you can trace all the way back to the tree.

Additionally, due to the smaller operation-size of single origin coffee, producers usually have a much closer relationship with the growers. As such, they often compensate them more fairly and care more about their wellbeing than larger operations. Wages are usually more fair, and if there is a problem growers are facing, partnered coffee companies can lend a helping hand to assist. In the case of Pure Origin’s Peruvian coffee, coffee was purchased to benefit the Todos Al Agua Project. They are a group in the Amazonas region of Peru and Colombia, in which combats water contamination throughout the producing region. Alternatively, purchases of the Colombian coffee helps fund the Las Rosas Women’s Group, which provides training and support for women coffee growers in the Huila region of Colombia. Purchasing single-origin coffees, then, usually goes hand-in-hand with supporting charitable causes throughout the world.

Why buy Pure Origin?

We can narrow single-origin coffee down to two main concerns for customers: peace of mind, and social activism. Pure Origin is proud to offer six exclusive varieties, each benefitting a unique and important cause in the respective countries: Congo, Honduras, Indonesia, Kenya, Peru, and Colombia.

Each coffee is not only delicious, but also grown and produced in a way that is sustainable and socially responsible. So, if you love coffee as much as we do, but worry about the impact your morning cup may have, look no further than Pure Origin!

Sustainable Indonesian Coffee

Are you looking for a sustainable Indonesian coffee, but want to make an impact in the world with every purchase? Pure Origin is proud to offer an incredible roast that makes a difference for farmers across the world!

Our Indonesian coffee is an organic Sumatran Fair-Trade certified dark roast with chocolate notes. In Indonesia, Pure Origin works alongside KSU. Item Coop Reje Gayo, a group that provides education and training on coffee cultivation techniques. A portion of every sale helps fund this training and ensures that farmers can sell every bean for a premium price. This is beneficial for the farmer, but also allows them to be sustainable growers, both environmentally and economically.

KSU. Item Coop Reje Gayo

Reje Gayo is a cooperative group of farmers located near the region of Sumatra. Together, they work to ensure export of high-quality coffee beans and receive equitable wages as a result. A portion of the proceeds from Pure Origin’s Indonesian coffee goes towards supporting this collective. Funds allow the farmers to improve their farms and the region around them.

Prior to the formation of the collective, the farmers struggled to obtain fair compensation and provide for their families. Conditions were quite poor, but since the foundation of Reje Gayo, the region has exploded with high-quality coffee! Farmers work in teams to prune, clear weeds, and fertilize coffee plantations to ensure future success for all of its members and their families. Financial stability is at an all-time-high, and every farmer receives a premium price for every bean sold. The farms have even made great strides environmentally! Farmers are trained in sustainable practices so that the coffee is grown, harvested, and processed with respect for the planet.

Why Pure Origin?

Pure Origin is proud to work alongside KSU. Item Coop Reje Gayo, one of our six outreach programs across the world. Like all of our coffees, our Indonesian coffee has sustainable impact. This means that we actively give back to the planet agriculturally. All of our cultivation techniques are performed with an eye on sustainability so that the planet can continue to flourish! At the same time, we make sure to compensate our farmers fairly so they can take care of themselves and their families.

Our coffee is single origin, which means that it comes exclusively from a select few farms. This means that our coffees come from specific locations. This allows our customers to be confident knowing what they are drinking and how the coffee was produced. This accountability is what helps Pure Origin stand apart from the pack, so try a cup today and discover the difference!

Our company was founded around the principles of sustainability and social activism. Since the start, we have made a commitment to the planet, to the farmers, and to our customers. We are proud of the work we have done so far, and look forward to taking the next step with you!

If you are anything like us, you believe that every purchase should make a difference. These days, customers demonstrate their morals with every dollar. They are no longer content settling for whatever product is on the market, and demand goods and services that give back to the world. Sustainable Honduran Coffee

90 percent of Honduran coffee farms operate as small, family-owned lots. This means they are very vulnerable when it comes to environmental fluctuations and financial instability. This is why we partner with these farms in Honduras to deliver the incredible taste you know and crave!

As a result, our partnered farms in Honduras have been thriving in recent years, allowing them to be more sustainable. Farmers now pay close attention to soil quality and water conservation, improving the quality of life for the farm and the farmer! All of our coffees are single origin, which means that they come from a single geographical region. We source only from small growers or sets of small growers in a collective. This allows us to support the farmers that need it and helps us create a product that makes a difference. Every bean is sustainably produced and can be traced back from the bag to the tree. That way, you know exactly what you are getting and where it comes from! Try a cup of Pure Origin coffee and help us make a difference for small farmers in Honduras today!
